God, I feel useless…

November 11, 2009

Is a statement, and certainly a feeling I know many of my friends, anyone college-age, and even myself can feel or say sometimes.  Please understand me, trying to “figure out life” is something that there seems to be so much pressure put on by parents, teachers, and even random people that strangely pop into your life that have no investment in you, but feel the need to tell you to “get the ball rolling and get your life together.”  The great question “what are you going to do with your life” is a huge one; and strangely becomes overwhelming after highschool.  I hope this post gives someone struggling with a job, school, or life that doesn’t seem to be going as planned.  One man said, “Life isnt about a title or position, but about who you are at the end of life.”  I know that life for me hasn’t always turned out as planned, and no dream is always as sweet as it is when it is in your head, but when life gets hard please remember to “look to the Author and Finisher of our faith,” Jesus, and be reminded that he is writing your story..our story… and the story of the world… Check out this post from Relevant, it deals with this discussion….

Also, be reminded, God isn’t “upstairs” trying to make life harder for you for no reason, neither did He create you to live a life to seek money, big houses, multiple cars, and fancy clothes.  He didn’t create us to meet a certain quota, or pray a certain amount of time a day to fill some sort of ”spiritual time sheet” as if to appease him.  Jesus came to set us free from living lives that live up to other’s standards, and freedom from feeling like we have to “do it all” and keep up with the Jones’.  Jesus-life is about peace, grace, humility, and realizing that its ok to be yourself, without apology.  So if it is a hard time, be patient, because Jesus is working on you, to make you more life him.. and that is always beautiful.  Even in the midst of job hunting, college, school work, and simply life.

Need a Job?

August 28, 2009

Ok, so everyone knows the economy is bad, and it is even worse to try and find a job.  But if you are struggling with trying to find a job, getting laid off, and wondering “where is God in all this?”  Check out this article from Relevant Magazine.  It’s an article I couldn’t pass up and hope you pass on to those who are dealing with job related issues.

No goals, No direction

March 19, 2009

Hey everyone.  Awhile back I had the privilege of teaching our LifeSkills class again in one of the underdeveloped places in our city.  I want to share what I talked about.

Way back in time before GPS systems, compasses, and maps, travellers had to use natural elements outside of themselves to help navigate them and give them direction.  People would use the Sun, the Moon, and the stars to point them in the right direction of where they needed to go, or to get them to safety.  They couldn’t just look into a direction and start walking and know where they were at.  For example, if a man was in the desert with no compass, his only reliance would be on those natural beings outside of himself to tell if he was going anywhere otherwise all he would have is sand.  Without being able to have a reference point, he couldn’t see how far he had walked, if he was walking north or south, or if he wasn’t walking in circles. People have always needed something outside themselves to gauge their distance and direction in life, and that is what goals are.  Setting goals helps us see if we are getting anywhere in life.  They help us focus, and give us something to work towards.  Without those outside elements called “goals” in our lives, we can’t tell what direction our lives are going (if it is good, bad, negative, or positive) and we can’t even tell if we are making progress.  Without goals we are aimlessly walking around in life, with no purpose, and no direction.  This wasn’t what we were created for.  We were created to accomplish, obtain, and cause change.

In life there are three main types of goals: financial goals, family goals, and spiritual goals. Family goals are the goals you want your family to achieve such as: a clean house, good grades, college education for your children, or spending more time together.  Financial goals consist of things like: budgeting, having X amount of dollars in the bank by the end of the month, or striving to give more charity.  Personal goals are the goals that you set for your own life.  Those goals can consist of: better hygiene, getting out of apathy, being a more positive person, going to church, starting that relationship with God.  Goals are important and in order to tell direction and movement in our life we have to have those elements outside of ourselves to tell if we are moving forward.

How have goals helped you?

What goals have you set in your life?

What goals do you need to set?

What direction are you moving in your life?

>>creativity

December 11, 2008

>>Hello everyone.  I like to consider myself a creative person.  I enjoy doing things in ways no one has thought of and no one has seen before.  Although I like to be creative, it would be also wise to say that in some way, shape, and form my creativity isn’t always original but derived from ideas seen elsewhere,  and that’s OK if it fits.  I love to create.  I love to change.  I love to mix things up; because let’s face it,  we won’t get what we have always had by doing the same things we have always done.  Here are some things that I have been looking to for creativity and ideas.  Enjoi.
